Trainings and Certifications

At the Y, we know that a big part of keeping our communities well, is keeping them safe.  We offer training and certification course in CPR/First Aid/AED, Lifeguarding, and Water Safety in an effort to make and keep our communities safe, not just inside of our walls.

Lifeguard Certification Class

Lifeguard Certification Class

This course is designed to give participants the basic skills and knowledge needed to be 
lifeguards in pools and aquatic environments.  This comprehensive course offers up-to-date 
information on how to guard; anticipate and prevent problems; and to take action to help those 
in need.  CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are included in the cost of the program.

Ages: 15 and older
Class requirements: 

  • Swim-Tread-Swim – Jump feet first into the deep end of the pool and swim 150 yards (3 laps) using front crawl or breaststroke only, immediately tread water for 2 minutes no hands, then swim another 50 yards (1 lap)
  • Retrieve 10-pound brick from deep end of the pool (No goggles)
  • Climb out of the pool without the assistance of a ladder or stairs
  • Course also includes certifications in CPR, First Aid and AED
  • Must attend each day of course classes in selected month
Water Safety Instructors Class
Water Safety Instructors Class
 
This course is helpful for those individuals who are interested in teaching swimming lessons. You will learn how to properly teach and evaluate students. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be certified in the instruction of swimming lessons. Participants must be 16 yrs old and have all current Lifeguard certifications.

First Aid and CPR/AED Pro Training Certification
Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Training
Whether your job requires the training, you work with youth or you just want to get certified; 
this is the class for you.  Participants will need to pre-register for class to complete the online 
portion. The online portion is done at the participant’s own pace but must be completed prior to 
the hands on class. Participants must pre-register one week prior to the start of the hands on training.
