YMCAs have been teaching people to swim for more than a century. In YMCA aquatics programs, children learn to be safe around water and they feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with learning something new.  We offer swim lessons year round, so it’s never too late to start learning.

A YMCA instructor will work one-on-one with your child to teach the skills they
need for a lifetime of aquatic safety and fun. This is a great way to give your
child the individual attention they need.

Lifeguard Certification Classes

Lifeguard Classes

This course is designed to give participants the basic skills and knowledge needed to be 
lifeguards in pools and aquatic environments.  This comprehensive course offers up-to-date 
information on how to guard; anticipate and prevent problems; and to take action to help those 
in need.  CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are included in the cost of the program.

Lifeguard Training

Ages: 15 and older
Participants must be physically able to

  • Tread water for 2-minutes without hands
  • Swim 100-yards Front Crawl
  • Swim 200-yards combination of Front Crawl and Breast Stroke
  • Climb out of the pool without the assistance of a ladder or stairs
  • Retrieve 10 pound brick from deep end of the pool
  • Course also includes certifications in CPR, First Aid and AED

This course is helpful for those individuals who are interested in teaching swimming lessons. You will learn how to properly teach and evaluate students. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be certified in the instruction of swimming lessons. Participants must be 16 yrs old and have all current Lifeguard certifications.

The Ormeroid Family Warm Pool Dedication Ceremony

On Tuesday, June 21st, the YMCA Dedicated the Warm Pool to the Ormeroid Family.  The Y is very thankful for all the hard work, dedication and countless volunteer hours the Ormeroid Family gives the YMCA.
